Counselling and Psychotherapy are forms of therapy that offer support for people that are experiencing difficulties in their life.
Counselling works with clients in overcoming current issues that may be preventing them from engaging and enjoying their lives and is usually a short term process.
Psychotherapy focuses on assisting the client in understanding their lives in a more profound way and tends to be a longer process than counselling. Psychotherapy can involve exploring the clients current and past experiences as well as their childhood relationships.
The aims of both Counselling and Psychotherapy are to support the client in improving their quality of life. This is done by helping the client to self-regulate themselves while getting to a place of balance and stability. The aim is to empower the individual by freeing them from mal-adaptive behaviours that have developed over time and are hindering their capacity to live a full life.
My Belief and My Approach:

I believe that every human being has an innate desire to become the best person that they can be. We have an inbuilt resilience and a wisdom that when activated can create healing and growth. My aim as a counsellor/psychotherapist is to support my clients in their growth and to provide them with the tools in which to empower themselves to reach their goals.
I work with both individuals and couples. The duration of a session is one hour. The sessions can take place either face to face at my comfortable therapy room in Glenbeigh, Co Kerry or through an on-line platform. The length of the therapeutic process can vary depending on the client’s needs and what unfolds during therapy.
I work with a Humanistic Integrative Counselling approach, which very much focuses on the growth and healing happening within the therapeutic relationship. My belief is that you the client are the expert in your own life and you have the power within yourself to make positive changes. I also integrate other therapeutic models such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal and CBT, when appropriate to the client’s needs.
Regular feedback is encouraged during the therapeutic process in order to explore how the client is experiencing the therapy and if their needs are being met.
